Revamped Best Bar None Scheme Launched for Nottingham

BBN Launch at Dogma

We Are Nottingham, the Business Improvement District which represents all of the leisure businesses in Nottingham city centre, has announced that it will be re-launching a Best Bar None scheme for Nottingham.

Details of the scheme were announced at a launch event yesterday at Dogma Bar and Kitchen, with over 60 attendees from both the licensed trade and the authorities in attendance.

Best Bar None is a national awards and accreditation scheme designed to raise the standards of licensed premises, improve the night time experience for visitors and promote Nottingham as a safe place to enjoy a night out.

Venues that apply will be assessed on various criteria ranging from how they manage the numbers of customers in their venue, to the proactive steps they take to encourage their patrons to be mindful of the neighbours when they leave their premises, to the responsible ways in which they promote drink offers, amongst many others.

Those businesses that meet all of the minimum standards will be given Best Bar None accreditation status, which will be identified to customers through a window sticker and a certificate displayed in the venue, plus all accredited venues will be displayed on an interactive Google map on the Nottingham Best Bar None website, shortly due to be launched.

In July, all accredited premises will then be put forward to a public vote, with customers voting for their favourite pub, bar, restaurant and club with Best Bar None status on the website. Winners will be announced at a glitzy bash at the Council House in August.

This year’s scheme has been developed by a steering group chaired by We Are Nottingham, with representation from the Nottingham Crime and Drugs Partnership (CDP), Nottingham City Council, Nottingham Businesses Against Crime (NBAC) and Nottinghamshire Police.

Sylvia Manser, Chief Executive for We Are Nottingham, said: “We are really pleased with the level of support for this year’s Best Bar None scheme, as the high number of attendees at the launch demonstrates.”

“Best Bar None is just another great example of how the trade and the authorities are committed to working together to ensure all visitors to Nottingham can enjoy a safe night out in our fantastic city.”
